Spookiest Moments of my Sports Memory

Going off of an ESPN bit I saw on TV. Today, I want to honor Halloween by acknowledging some of the scariest sports moments I can remember.  There are a few that come to mind very quickly and others that I had to think about, but all of them will haunt me forever.  Here’s just a couple.

My first moment has to be when the Boston Red Sox came back from three games down in the ALCS to beat the Yankees.  I’ll never forget how awful I felt after that and how much garbage I had to hear from the Boston faithful that surround me in my New England home.  It was brutal to see happen and the fact that they will be remembered for the greatest comeback in history really ticks me off.

My second moment has to be the NFC Championship when the Green Bay Packers faced off against the Philadelphia Eagles.  I am a die-hard Packers fan and when the Eagles had the 4th and 26 with very little time left in the game, I along with every other Green Bay fan thought the game was over.  Well just to rain on our parade Donovan “I pull throws out of my a$$” McNabb completes a monster pass and the Eagles go on to win the game.  It broke my heart because I really thought Favre was going to get another ring, but instead the lousy Eagles got destroyed in the super bowl.

A final moment that really spooks me is when Vince Young ran the ball to the right and scored a touchdown giving Texas the win over U.S.C. and giving the longhorns the national title.  This haunting comes from the fact that I absolutely hated Texas that year and I really really hated Vince Young.  I thought he was an overrated quarterback who wasn’t going to succeed in the NFL even though he was drawing comparisons to Michael Vick.  I don’t really like USC that much either but I really don’t like Texas mainly because my favorite team is Missouri.  That play was really awful too because anyone watching it knew Young was going to run the ball to the right and yet the Trojans still couldn’t stop him.  The only positive that came out of Young scoring that T.D. was everyone boosting his value even more.  Turns out my predictions about his inadequacies as an NFL quarterback were right and the fact that he’s the face of the franchise for the Titans yet he’s riding the pine makes me feel o.k. Years later.  I do have to note though that I did think Leinart would be an o.k. NFL q.b. Not a great one but a good one.  But it seems like that prediction has not panned out yet.  We’ll see once he gets a full season under his belt.

Thanks for listening to my scary moments, I have more but I don’t have enough time to write them all down for you.  If you have any moments that you want me to mention or just want me to know caused you extreme pain, email me at tanner5986@yahoo.com.
