Fantasy Running Backs

Written by Richie Graffeo

1. Arian Foster – Texans

2. Adrian Peterson – Vikings

3. Jamaal Charles – Chiefs

4. Ray Rice – Ravens

5. Rashard Mendenhall – Steelers

6. Maurice Jones-Drew – Jaguars

7. LeSean McCoy – Eagles

8. Michael Turner – Falcons

9. Chris Johnson – Titans

10. Darren McFadden – Raiders

Notes on the Top 10:

As you can see, Arian Foster edged out Peterson for the number 1 spot in my rankings. Foster had a ridiculous year last season, and the only question is whether he can come close to those numbers again, and I think yes. He’s only 25 years old and is a powerful runner, so he should be able to take a beating for at least a few more years to come, giving him a real bright future. Jamaal Charles takes the number 3 slot, as I see no reason he shouldn’t have another great year. He’s super-fast, and despite his great season, he only had 8 total touchdowns. The aging Thomas Jones stole 6 from him last year, but I expect Charles to rack up a few more this season with Jones getting less touches. I’m also a fan of LeSean McCoy, who I expect to repeat his performance last year with an even better one. With teams focusing more on blitzing Vick, look for more of those short passes to McCoy to get him into the open field. Final note on the top 10 is addressing Chris Johnson coming in at number 9. Just because he didn’t live up to expectations last season doesn’t mean he didn’t have a good year, just not number 1 overall pick status. The two main things that concern me with him is this whole holding out and contract situation, and also that Tennessee is not a very good team.

11. Steven Jackson – Rams

12. Matt Forte – Bears

13. Peyton Hillis – Browns

14. Frank Gore

15. LeGarrette Blount – Buccaneers

16. Ahmad Bradshaw – Giants

17. Felix Jones – Cowboys

18. Knowshon Moreno – Broncos

19. Ryan Grant – Packers

20. Benjarvus Green-Ellis – Patrios

Notes on 11 – 20:

Steven Jackson at number 11 may be a bit high for some people, but I still think he’s a very useful RB. Last season he played in every game and had double-digit fantasy points at least 11 times. He only had 6 touchdowns, but I expect to see a slight rise in that number with the continued growth of Sam Bradford and just the Rams offense in general. Frank Gore and Ryan Grant are the main injury risks in this group, but if Gore can stay healthy (which I doubt), then he could easily be a top 6 running back. I’m a believer in Tampa Bay’s offense, which is why Blount is so high. Same with Felix Jones in Dallas, as I think with Barber gone he’ll see more carries in a high powered offense led by Tony Romo. Forte and Moreno especially are on pretty weak teams, so that’s a bit of a concern for me, but they’re both solid RBs.

21. Beanie Wells – Cardinals

22. Jahvid Best – Lions

23. Shonn Green – Jets

24. DeAngelo Williams – Panthers

25. Cedric Benson – Bengals

26. Mark Ingram – Saints

27. Ryan Mathews – Chargers

28. Marshawn Lynch – Seahawks

29. Tim Hightower – Redskins

30. Mike Tolbert – Chargers

Notes on 21 – 30:

You might be thinking, DeAngelo Williams at number 24?? Actually that might even be a little high. Not only is he one of the biggest injury risks among all players, but he’s also on one of the worst teams in the league. With not much of an offensive line or stability at the quarterback position in Carolina, Williams averaged only 7 fantasy points per game in the 6 games that he actually played in. So not only does he have to stay healthy, but you have to hope for a huge bounce-back season which I think is too much to ask. Wells, Best, and even Greene have the opportunity to produce and have a top 10 RB season. If these guys can stay healthy, expect very nice years out of all of them, and are high risk/high reward kind of guys. Lastly I’ll mention the two guys out of San Diego, Tolbert and Mathews. Last year, Tolbert got 11 touchdowns and had just less than 1000 total yards, while Mathews was just over 800 total yards and 7 TDs in an injury filled season. I’m expecting Mathews to get more touches this season because the Chargers drafted him in the 1st round for a reason and want to give him every chance to produce, which is why I have him slightly ahead of Tolbert.

31. Fred Jackson – Bills

32. Joseph Addai – Colts

33. Reggie Bush – Dolphins

34. Jonathan Stewart – Panthers

35. Michael Bush – Raiders

36. Brandon Jacobs – Giants

37. Pierre Thomas – Saints

38. Daniel Thomas – Dolphins

39. Willis McGahee – Broncos

40. Ryan Torain – Redskins

41. James Starks – Packers

42. Jerome Harrison – Lions

43. Rashard Jennings – Jaguars

44. C.J. Spiller – Bills

45. Montario Hardesty – Browns

46. Ben Tate – Texans

47. Danny Woodhead – Patriots

48. Ronnie Brown – Eagles

49. Jason Snelling – Falcons

50. Delone Carter – Colts

Notes on 31 – 50:

Fred Jackson is by far the best in this group, it’s just the Bills are so bad he will only be able to do so much this season. CJ Spiller looks worse and worse every day, so don’t expect him to do much, as he might just be the next Aaron Maybin. In Jonathan’s Stewart’s case, basically everything I said about DeAngelo Williams, but add in the fact he’s the backup to start week 1. A lot of these RBs this late are backups, and you should draft them based on playing potential. For example, Darren McFadden is an injury risk, so if he goes down at some point in the season, Michael Bush would then become the starter and have a starring role. Same goes for James Starks in Green Bay or Ben Tate in Houston. That being said, if you drafted let’s just say a Ryan Grant, you’re going to want Starks in case Grant gets injured.

Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings

Written by Richie Graffeo

RankPlayerByeNote
1Michael Vick7Understand there is an injury risk, but I'll still take my chances with Vick. Some people think all you have to do is blitz him and he'll struggle, but I think Andy Reid will counter against that and find ways to let Vick use his skills and rack up huge fantasy points once again.
2Aaron Rodgers8Much safer pick than Vick and still was able to put up great numbers. Had over 350 yards and 4 touchdowns rushing, so he can steal some points with his legs too. Only thing is I think a healthy Grant will take away some of his passing attempts.
3Tom Brady 7Last season had 36 TDs and only 4 INTs. Add Ochocinco as a target and I think Brady will have another huge fantasy season.
4Drew Brees11If he can limit his 22 INTs from a year ago, he could finish as a top 2 QB. He did throw for over 4600 yards and 33 touchdowns, but the difference between him and Brady right now is that he's a turnover machine.
5Philip Rivers6One of the top QBs last year and led the league in Passing Yards, and with Gates healthy and returning, why can't he do it again?
6Tony Romo5Obviously there's an injury risk here with Romo missing most of last season and having a mediocre offensive line, but there's still plenty of hope for a 30 TD season in a high flying Dallas offense this season.
7Peyton Manning11Questions regarding health and offensive line give him a major red flag this season. Still was 2nd in Passing Yards last season so he still has plenty of skill left at age 35.
8Matt Schaub11An up and down season for Schaub, but in the final 8 games he averaged just over 17 fantasy points per game in standard leagues. Expect teams to focus more on Arian Foster this season just like the second half of last year, which should open up more passing opportunities for Schaub.
9Josh Freeman8When looking at the numbers, how can you not love this kid? 25 TDs and 6 INTs, not to mention 364 yards rushing in only his second NFL season. Should improve on his zero rushing touchdowns, which can only help his argument for having another very solid season for a rising Buccaneers team.
10Ben Roethlisberger11After his suspension last season, he looked like he never missed a beat finishing 6th among QBs in fantasy points per game. Another solid year should be on the way for Big Ben.
11Matt Ryan11If you want someone with huge point potential, Ryan's not your guy. He only scored more than 20 fantasy points 3 times last season, but was very consistent in putting up at least 10 points in 14 of his 16 starts.
12Eli Manning7A pretty inconsistent year for Eli throwing 25 picks to go with 31 TDs, but still threw for over 4000 yards and has a nice pair of Widereceivers to help his cause.
13Matthew Stafford9Perfect example of a high risk/high reward guy. Played in only 2 full games last year, but in each of those racked up 24 fantasy points. If he can stay healthy, which is a HUGE if, he can be a top 10 QB in my opinion with the weapons he has.
14Joe Flacco5Not a bad season by any means for Flacco, who had 3622 passing yard, 25 TDs and 10 INTs. The addition of Lee Evans can only help, but doesn't get enough attempts to put up giant numbers.
15Sam Bradford5Look for Bradford to improve on his rookie campaign of 18 TDs and 15 picks, but to think he'll be a top 10 QB is a little overboard. Nice year for a rookie, but still just a backup for fantasy.
16Kevin Kolb6Even if you’re not sold on him like some people are, you can't deny he's got potential. Why not draft him as a backup and take the chance he has a breakout year? He only has upside if you take him this late at the Quarterback position, that is assuming he's your backup to start the year.
17Jay Cutler8Not much to like with their offensive system and poor offensive line, but Cutler did score over 20 fantasy points four times last year, so not a terrible matchup play in some cases.
18Matt Cassel627 TDs and 7 INTs for Cassel who had a very respectable season. Solid backup for your team, but it's going to be hard to repeat his 2010 stats in 2011.
19Kyle Orton6Despite what Denver fans want to hear, his job his safe as the starter to start the season. In the first 11 games last season, he averaged just over 18 fantasy points per game, so he's not a terrible option if you have to go to him.
20Colt McCoy5Dominant preseason so far, but then again, it is preseason. Still, I think he's got some upside and could be a useful QB.
21Mark Sanchez817 TDs and 13 INTs throwing last season, so clearly not much of a fantasy option. Plaxico helps his stock a little, but he still lost Cotchery and Edwards.
22Donovan McNabb9No doubt he will be better than he was in Washington, but unfortunately that's still not saying much for the 34 year old QB.
23Ryan Fitzpatrick7More of a hit or miss guy, and expect a lot of misses this season. Had a nice fantasy year in 2010 with four games of 20 or more fantasy points, but only so much can happen on a Bills team who could have the worst offensive line in the history of football.
24Chad Henne5Biggest thing is consistency. Showed some glimpses of his potential last year , but those glimpses were few and not often.
25Alex Smith7Very similar to Henne. On the hot seat, but still has a tad of potential left before we all give up hope on the former #1 overall pick.
26Jason Campbell8Last 5 games last year he averaged over 15 fantasy points per game, so you never know, a breakout could finally happen.
27David Garrard9Actually had a decent year fantasy wise last year, but the reason I have him so low is because of Gabbert.
28Cam Newton9I still think Jimmy Clausen gives Carolina a better chance at winning, but apparently not Carolina. Only reason he's this high is for his running ability.
29Matt Hasselbeck6Basically no potential with him, but he's a starter, for week 1 anyways.
30Tavaris Jackson6Not a good passer, decent wheels, but turnovers will be an issue in Seattle.
31John Beck5Horrible offensive line. Horrible team. Horrible everything.
32Andy Dalton7Rookie quarterback on what many believe is the worst team in the NFL. Not a good combination.

2011 NFL Power Rankings

RankTeam2010 RecordComments
1.Green Bay Packers10-6All their pieces back from their Super Bowl championship. Plus Jermichael Finely will be coming back from his 2010 injury; making them even more explosive on offense.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers12-4They need to keep Ben Roethlisberger healthy if they hope to reach another Super Bowl.
3.New England Patriots14-2Last year was suppose to be a rebuilding year. This year they should make a run in the playoffs.
4.Indianapolis Colts10-6They have Peyton Manning. What else needs to be said.`
5.New York Jets11-5Rex Ryan guaranteed another Super Bowl victory. Will he be right one of these times?
6. New Orleans Saints11-5We know what to expect from their offense but what will the Saints' defense do this year?
7. Baltimore Ravens12-4They have all the pieces that they need. They just have to put it together during the playoffs.
8.San Diego Chargers9-7Norv Turner should be on the hot seat this year. So much talent that doesn't live up to expectations.
9.Philadelphia Eagles10-6A full off-season knowing that Michael Vick will be the starting QB will only help that offense.
10.Dallas Cowboys6-10Tony Romo will be back fully healthy to prove his doubters wrong.
11. Houston Texans6-10Arian Foster will run wild again. Now all they need is a defense.
12.Atlanta Falcons13-3Matt Ryan had a good off-season with the drafting of Julio Jones. Another big target to throw to in the 2011 NFL season.
13.New York Giants10-6They go as Eli goes.
14.Tampa Bay Buccaneers10-6Josh Freeman played great last year. Look for him to keep improving.
15.Detroit Lions6-10The Lions continue to improve and with the defensive line that they have put together, they will be very tough to score on.
16.Chicago Bears11-5How tough is Jay Cutler?
17.Kansas City Chiefs10-6Can they win the division again or will San Diego take it back.
18.Arizona Cardinals6-10The addition of Kevin Kolb is one of the best in this off-season. Larry Fitzgerald should have an outstanding year with Kolb.
19.St. Louis Rams7-9Another year with Sam Bradford is usually a good thing but Josh McDaniels is the new offensive coordinator and no off-season to work together.
20.Miami Dolphins7-9Chad Henne is on the hot seat. This will be a make or break year for him.
21.Oakland Raiders8-8They will never win a Super Bowl with Al Davis running the show.
22.Cleveland Browns5-11Can Colt McCoy continue to progress into an NFL QB will be the question this season.
23.San Francisco 49ers5-11It will take some time for Jim Harbaugh to implement his system and find the right QB but I think he will have an immediate impact in the 2011 season.
24.Jacksonville Jaguars7-9How long will David Garrard be the Jaguars quarterback.
25.Minnesota Vikings6-10Rookie QB and Adrian Peterson. I expect a lot of ground and pound.
26.Tennessee Titans6-10See above and substitute Chris Johnson for Adrian Peterson.
27.Buffalo Bills4-12I did like their drafting this year but they don't have enough fire power to compete yet.
28.Denver Broncos4-12Tim Tebow or Kyle Orton?
29.Seattle Seahawks7-9What is Matt Hasselbeck going to do? The season will be on his shoulders.
30.Carolina Panthers2-14The only interesting story here is whether Jimmy Clausen will give up the #2 to Cam Newton.
31.Cincinnati Bengals4-12T.O. and Ochocinco are gone. Carson Palmer is sticking to his retirement. It should be an interesting season in Cincinnati.
32.Washington Redskins6-10With the Cowboys, Giants, and Eagles all looking strong for 2011, Washington will have a pretty tough time. They currently have no QB which will not suffice in the NFC East.

2011 NFL Mock Draft

2011 NFL Mock Draft

1. Carolina Panthers – QB Cam Newton – Auburn

Cam Newton is a phenomenal athlete and a physical specimen.  I don’t believe that he is the best quarterback in the 2011 NFL draft, that title going to Blaine Gabbert of Missouri, but it seems that if the Panthers do go with QB at #1 then they will go with Newton.  Newton has demonstrated that he can play QB in the NFL during the season at Auburn as well as during his pro day so it won’t be a terrible pick.

2. Denver Broncos - DT/DE Marcell Dareus – Alabama

If Marcell Dareus does not go to the Panthers with the 1st overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Broncos won’t take too long to scoop him up.  He will fit new Head Coach John Fox’s 4-3 defensive scheme perfectly as he may be the best football player in the 2011 NFL draft.

3. Buffalo Bills – OLB Von Miller – Texas A&M

The Bills will have to think strongly about drafting Blaine Gabbert with the third overall pick.  I think that Von Miller is a playmaking defensive player that can play the linebacker position or rush the passer.  He has been compared to DeMarcus Ware and posses many of the same skills.  The Bills will still be in the running for Andrew Luck in the 2012 NFL draft.

4. Cincinnati Bengals - WR A.J. Green – Georgia

Carson Palmer seems to be set on retiring because I don’t see the Bengals trading him when the lockout comes to an end and trading opens up.  I would think that with Blaine Gabbert still on the draft board that they should go  with him as a backup plan but I don’t hear any interest coming from Cincinnati’s draft camp that they will go in that direction.

5. Arizona Cardinals – QB Blaine Gabbert – Missouri

The Cardinals’ QB situation currently is a mess and they should definitely be looking for their franchise QB in the 2011 NFL mock draft.  With this pick they could choose between Cam Newton, Ryan Mallet, or Blaine Gabbert.  I think that Blaine Gabbert is the number one quarterback coming into the 2011 NFL mock draft.

6. Cleveland Browns - WR Julio Jones – Alabama

The Browns could go with a defensive end here like a Robert Quinn but I think with Colt McCoy becoming their franchise quarterback he will need a big time playmaker to throw to.  Julio Jones is a big body with great hands and speed. I wouldn’t blame them if they went to the defensive side of the ball but it will be hard to pass on Jones here.

7. San Francisco 49ers – CB Patrick Peterson – LSU

With this pick in the 2011 NFL mock draft, the 49ers could look to draft a QB.  With Gabbert and Newton off the board, San Francisco should look to draft the best available player on their big board.  That just happens to be Patrick Peterson who is a dynamic athlete with very good cover corner skills.

8. Tennessee Titans - DT Nick Fairley – Auburn

The Titans could go in a few directions here.  They are going to release QB Vince Young and can’t continue with Kerry Collins.  I don’t think any QB is worthy with this pick though so I think they turn to the defensive side of the ball.  This would be a great pick up if Fairley falls to them at pick number eight in the 2011 NFL mock draft.

9. Dallas Cowboys – OT Tyron Smith – USC

The Cowboys have a few different needs and could go in a few directions.  They could draft a defensive end here because they have some defensive lineman who are free agents.  I believe that they need to start on the offensive line though especially since Tony Romo is coming off a injury that held him out of most of last season.

10. Washington Redskins – DE J.J. Watt – Wisconsin

With the 10th pick in the 2011 NFL mock draft they could go a few ways.  They could go with a quarterback but my top two QB’s are off the board so I would move to the next position which is a playmaking WR.  The Redskins drafted a great DE in Brian Orakpo two years ago so now if they go with another defensive end that pass rush will be hard to defend and will help improve their all around defense.

2011 NFL Mock Draft 11-20

April 1, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

11. Houston Texans - CB Prince Amukamara – Nebraska

Houston has a bunch of needs and most of their needs are on the defensive end.  I think they need a defensive lineman more than anything so they could draft JJ Watt with this pick but if Amukamara is available then he will be hard to pass up.  He is a great cover corner who could sure up that secondary which gets abused a lot with the likes of Peyton Manning in their division.

12. Minnesota Vikings – QB Jake Locker – Washington

I believe that Jake Locker has really improved his draft stock with his pro day workout and his numbers at the combine.  He didn’t have a great senior season at Washington but has a high ceiling.  There have been rumors that he won’t make it past Minnesota at pick 12. I think he would be a great fit in the Vikings offensive scheme.

13. Detroit Lions - OT Nate Solder – Colorado

The Lions have been held back due to the injuries of QB Matthew Stafford.  Nate Solder is one of the best offensive lineman in the 2011 NFL draft.  He has great feet and strength and should be a top 15 draft pick.  He should help protect Stafford and hopefully keep him healthy the whole season.

14. St. Louis Rams – CB Jimmy Smith – Colorado

If Julio Jones falls to them at this pick then they should quickly send in the draft pick but I have Jones going to Washington.  Jimmy Smith has really shot up the draft board and has moved into the third CB in the 2011 NFL draft.  He has top end size and speed to really shine in the NFL.

15. Miami Dolphins - DE Da’Quan Bowers – Clemson

Da’Quan Bowers has been falling down many team’s draft boards due to health concerns.  He may not fall this far to Miami at #15 but if he does they will be dumb not to pick him up.  When healthy he is potentially the number one overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, so this would be a great value pick.

16. Jacksonville Jaguars – DE Robert Quinn – North Carolina

Here is another team that could look at taking a QB in the first rounds but I think David Garrard played well enough to have his job safe going into the 2011-12 season.  After saying that we go to the defensive side of the ball.  Jacksonville was tied for 30th in the NFL in total sacks.  Not that sacks are everything but a lot of games they struggled to put pressure on the quarterback.  With Quinn on the defensive line it will help the attack of the Jaguars defensive pressure.

17. New England Patriots (From Oakland) – DE Cameron Jordan – California

New England’s defensive in the 2010 season was not very strong.  They did get better throughout the season and a big hole in the defense was a pass rush.  Cameron Jordan is a good 5-technique player who will help put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

18. San Diego Chargers – OLB Akeem Ayers – UCLA

Although San Diego has had a rough start to the 2010 season, their defense has played pretty well.  San Diego’s defense has not been the same with out the dynamic play that Shawn Merriman provided.  Ayers is a similar type of linebacker who can get to the passer but also drop back in coverage.

19. New York Giants – CB Brandon Harris – Miami

I originally had CB Janoris Jenkins being drafted here but he recently said that he was going to come back to Miami.  He is a very good athlete and will help in the Giants’ secondary for the 2011 season.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – DE Ryan Kerrigan – Purdue

The Buccaneers were one of the most surprising teams of this NFL season.  They have a lot of young talent that is learning to play together really fast.  Last year with their first round selection they went with DT Gerald McCoy to improve the defense which has done just that.  Adding a defensive end like Ryan Kerrigan would be a great addition in the first round of the 2011 NFL mock draft.

2011 Fantasy Baseball Mock Draft

January 26, 2011 by · 1 Comment

It is that time of the year where football is coming to an end and our attention now needs to change to fantasy baseball.  Come March, there will be an abundance of fantasy baseball drafts and I am starting early to help your brain transition from fantasy football to fantasy baseball.  Each week I will add a new round of draft picks.  Feel free to comment on my draft picks and let me know what you think….

Round 1

1. Hanley Ramirez, SS, Florida Marlins

The best player going into this fantasy baseball season is definitely Albert Pujols.  The thing that hurts his fantasy draft stock this year in my 2011 mock draft is that there are a lot of big time first basemen that can be picked up later on.  The reason I go with Hanley Ramirez number one overall is that there are not many shortstops that produce his kind of numbers.  He hits for power, steals bases, drives in runs, and scores many runs.  Troy Tulowitzki is about the only other SS that comes close the Ramirez’s numbers.

2010 Stats: Avg. .300, 21 HR, 76 RBI, 92 Runs, 32 SB’s

2. Albert Pujols, 1B, St. Louis Cardinals

The second pick in your fantasy baseball draft may be the easiest this year.  If someone like me picks Hanley Ramirez then it’s a no brainer you go with Pujols and if the first pick is Albert Pujols then you have to go with Ramirez.  Pujols does not need much discussion about because he is the best player in the game and may be the best hitter in baseball history.

2010 Stats: Avg. .312, 42 HR, 118 RBI, 115 Runs, 14 SB’s

3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B, Detroit Tigers

Cabrera has been getting better every year he has been in the league.   He has hit over 30 HR’s in 6 of his 8 MLB seasons and also hit for a great average as a power hitter, which is hard to come by.  Last year he had a career year for his overall stats and I expect him to have the same production in 2011.

2010 Stats: Avg. .328, 38 HR, 126 RBI, 111 Runs, 3 SB’s

4. Carl Crawford, OF, Boston Red Sox

Carl Crawford has been one of the best fantasy outfielders in the last few seasons.  In a rotisserie league, one of the biggest categories that I try to win the stolen base category.  Crawford is one of the best at the art of stealing bases.  In his 9 seasons of MLB experience he has had 7 seasons when he has stolen over 40 bases.  Along with the stolen base category, he can hit for average, drive in runs, score runs, and even hit close to 20 home runs.  Now in Boston, with a short left field fence he could look at even more home runs and maybe a higher average.

2010 Stats: Avg. .307, 19 HR, 90 RBI, 110 Runs, 47 SB’s

5. Adrian Gonzalez, 1B, Boston Red Sox

Adrian Gonzalez has produced extraordinary numbers in San Diego’s pitcher friendly park and now he is playing in Fenway Park.  Fenway is a lefty friendly park, with a short left field fence.  Gonzalez is a very good opposite field hitter so the green monster should also be very appealing to him.

2010 Stats: Avg. .298, 31 HR, 101 RBI, 87 Runs

6. Robinson Cano, 2B, New York Yankees

The battle between the top second basemen is between Robinson Cano and Chase Utley.  Utley ended up missing a large part of the season last year and Cano had a career year in 2010.

2010 Stats: Avg. .319, 29 HR, 109 RBI, 103 Runs, 3 SB’s

7. Evan Longoria, 3B, Tampa Bay Rays

Longoria was drafted in 2006 and made his way to the majors very quick.  Since he has been up with the Tampa Bay Rays, he has done nothing but put up big numbers.  He has produced over 20 HR’s, and over 85 RBI’s in his three professional seasons.  Last year, he also showed some speed on the bases with 15 stolen bases.

2010 Stats: Avg. .294, 22 HR, 104 RBI, 96 Runs, 15 SB’s

8. Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati Reds

The Cincinnati Reds won the National League Central Division for the first time since 1995.  Joey Votto was a major reason for the turn around.  He won the National League MVP for the monster numbers that he put up.  Everyone knew that he was capable of his 2010 stat line it was just a matter of time for it to show.  He has overcome a lot of adversity and I believe he will be a force in the NL for many years to come.

2010 Stats: Avg. .324, 37 HR, 113 RBI, 106 Runs, 16 SB’s

9. Troy Tulowitzki, SS, Colorado Rockies

I have seen a few fantasy baseball mock drafts have Troy Tulowitzki in the top 5.  I think that is a little too high but I definitely can understand the reason he would be drafted so high.  It goes along with my explanation for drafting Hanley Ramirez number one overall.  The reason I have him slipping a little is that he has missed a decent amount of games over his last three seasons, so that scares me but his numbers don’t lie and position scarcity helps him go in the first round of most fantasy baseball drafts.

2010 Stats: Avg. .315, 27 HR, 95 RBI, 89 Runs, 11 SB’s

10. Ryan Braun, OF, Milwaukee Brewers

Although outfield depth is an easier position to come by, Ryan Braun is one of my favorite fantasy players in the past three years.  He has played in over 150 games, driven in over 100 runs in each of the last three seasons, and hit over 30 HR’s in 3 out 4 seasons.  You could call him Mr. Consistency and that is a huge factor in my fantasy baseball drafts.

2010 Stats: Avg. .309, 25 HR, 103 RBI, 101 Runs, 14 SB’s
